Memorable Mealtimes

Cher from Love Actually has such a fun site about creative romantic ideas on a budget!! Here are her ideas for making mealtime fun... "Family Dinner can be a great time to press pause on our lives and enjoy time talking and catching up. Sometimes, however, nit-picking and petty arguments turn “family dinner” into a not-so-pleasant experience... can you relate?"
Cher made 18 conversation cards for you to try at the dinner table. Go here for the free download

A Little Boy's Very Charming Playhouse!

Judy Palkovic and husband designed and made this absolutely stunning playhouse for their little boy. Judy explains: My husband and I had always talked about building a playhouse when we started a family. Initially when we'd sit and talk about what the design would be for the house, we envisioned it for a little girl. So when we had our son, we had to rethink how to design it to suit a growing little boy turning 3 (it's part of his birthday present).
Let me preface this by saying that my husband is not a professional contractor or carpenter, and we're far from wealthy! We built this ourselves using free scrap wood, discount materials from surplus home builder centers, lots of careful planning and shopping on ebay, craigslist, etc...and lots of ingenuity, creativity, thought, and love! That's not to say that it was cheap to build, but that we took great pains to keep costs down and stay within our budget.

The old pine shelf on the wall was given an updated look with some coordinating red paint and wainscotting. The handmade wooden train was bought at a craft festival. Airplanes were hung from the ceiling to look as though they're soaring overhead.

The "garage"....

Wrench handles were made for the garage doors!

This is for sure the cutest and cleanest garage I've ever seen - complete with work bench.

Judy thank you for sharing such a wonderful playhouse with us! For more photos and information check out Judy's blog Cutest Little Things.

Fabulous Idea For A Baby Shower Invitation

My friend NataLee is very clever! She designed this invitation for a friends baby shower that looks, reads and feels like a newspaper. She even printed the invitation on inexpensive kids "sketch pad" paper for the true newspaper effect. NataLee wrote the true story about the pregnancy for the main headline news and came up with top billboard songs, top baby girl names and included a very funny comic. I love the fact that this invite was so original and yet inexpensive to boot!

diy bridal shower inviteShe also came up with the bridal shower invitation in the same format - very fun invitation to receive.

NataLee is multi-talented - she sells vinyl quotes and many wonderful holiday kits on her website NataLee Allen Designs. You can either purchase the kits finished or make them yourself with her supplies. NataLee is constantly helping me out with some kind of project. If you need a custom vinyl quote, send her an email.

It's a Wii Themed Party!

Amy Wilges came up with this creative idea for her sons birthday. The Wii themed party started off with guests arriving and getting their mii badges to wear during the party. Clever idea!

Hung around the room were 8 x 10" mii images of all the guests.

Goodie bags: Amy found some Wii controllers that were candy dispensers and cute medal awards that go around your neck. Gold covered chocolate coins and blue neon glow sticks also filled the goodie bags. The guests also received water bottles with labels of the birthday boys mii on it.

Wii controller cake. Check out Amy's site for more party info.

More Wii party ideas....

Heid from Kevin and Heidi also had a Wii party. Heidi said: "What a great party....we had all Camerons friends from school come for a tournament....The events were Wii sports...bowling, Donkey Kongas with bongos, Guitar Hero III, and Mario Kart for the grand Champion....IT was sooo much fun and a way crazy day!!"

Heidi describes the obstacle course, "Mario obstacle course....we even had the mystery boxes full of fireballs...lemon heads....coins...turtle shells....TURBO....hee hee...kinda funny....they especially loved going through the tubes!!!! They felt like they were in a mario game!!" Found via Tipjunkie

Even more Wii party ideas...

Jo-Ann from Pumpkin Petunia had some wonderful ideas for her sons Wii party. Yes, these Wiimotes are made of paper! Jo-Ann describes making these, "When the tournament concluded and the winner was crowned, the guests left with their own Wiimote filled with treats. The wiimotes were made from paper using a pattern found here {via mumbojumbo}. I printed the pattern on 100 lb. cardstock and they were very sturdy, but did take some extra time to fold. Be prepared to spend some time cutting and folding, about 4 minutes per. " Found via Tipjunkie.

Jo-Ann said, "Hanging on the door leading to the play room (the venue for the tournament) was a chart containing cards for each person's Mii. This was used to create brackets for the tournament. The bracket cards were held in a classroom chart purchased in Target's dollar spot. (dear Target, how did I ever live without you?)."
